Morgan // Santa Clara university portrait session

I know a real life Elle Woods. She is intelligent. She is successful. She is gorgeous. And she’s blonde. This badass woman of the law is out in the world and ready to make a difference. Morgan Paterson just graduated from the prestigious Santa Clara University School of Law and is preparing to make her mark. I met Morgan years ago at a bridal shower for our sweet friend, Shelly (whose rainy redwood wedding you can check out here!), and she told me then of her dreams to make ripples in social justice throughout the world. She wanted to be able to defend the defenseless and speak for the speechless. Her heart ached for the oppressed and persecuted, so she decided she would do something about it.

Morgan invited me out to Santa Clara University for the first half of her portrait session. Anytime I photograph senior portraits, I always recommend we spend some quality time at your future alma mater to celebrate the season of your life spent there. After all, most of us are in school 3 to 4 years. That’s a good chunk of time, guys! And Santa Clara University is just so beautiful. The mission alone is a highly desirable photo spot and wedding venue for alumni only. How cool is that? Morgan’s colorful spirit came out in her joy and, of course, her bright green-ish pants that just totally encompassed her personality. She wanted to look professional but still be her, which is EXACTLY my kind of outlook. Be intentional but stand out.

It was our time at Coyote Creek that really made us light up for this Morgan Hill portrait session. Her second outfit was a show stopping summery dress that billowed in the wind with heels that intimidate me. This girl walks with total and complete confidence in herself and it’s contagious. I dream of being like her some day—beautiful, confident and powerful. That’s Morgan to me. And getting to capture this incredible milestone for her was an honor.
